Privacy Policy

I am Michael Clark, an independent author. I sell my books directly from this site rather than through a retailer, which means a purchase creates a short record between you and me. I keep that record small on purpose. I do not sell reader data, and I do not want to hold anything I do not need to fulfil an order or answer an email.
What I collect
When you buy a book, the checkout collects your name, email address, billing address or billing country, and the details of what you ordered. Your email address is the important one, because that is where the PDF and ePub files are delivered.
When you join the mailing list, I collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name.
When you email me, I keep the message and your address for as long as the conversation is useful.
When you simply read a page, my hosting and analytics tools record technical information automatically: IP address, browser and device type, referring page, and which pages you opened. This is aggregate traffic data, not a file with your name on it.
How it is used
- To deliver the files you paid for and to send the receipt.
- To answer questions, resend a download link, or process a refund.
- To send news about new books, but only if you asked to be on the list.
- To understand which pages and adverts bring readers to the book, in aggregate.
- To keep tax and accounting records the law requires me to keep.
I do not sell, rent or trade your information. Nobody buys a reader list from me.
Payments
Card payments are handled by my payment processor, not by me. Your full card number never reaches this site and I never see it or store it. I receive only the confirmation that a payment succeeded, the amount, and the last four digits for matching a refund to an order. The processor handles that data under its own privacy policy and its own PCI compliance.
Cookies and tracking
This site uses three kinds of cookie.
Necessary. Keep your cart and checkout session working. The store cannot function without them.
Analytics. Count visits and show which pages readers actually finish. Reported as totals.
Advertising. I advertise this book on Meta platforms. Their pixel records that a browser viewed the page or completed a purchase, so I can measure whether an advert worked and avoid showing it to people who already bought. Meta processes that event under its own data policy.
You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can turn off personalised advertising inside your Meta account settings. Blocking necessary cookies will break checkout.
Buying a book does not put you on the mailing list. The list is separate and opt-in. If you do join, every email has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom, and using it removes you immediately with no reply needed. Order and delivery emails are transactional, so you receive those whether or not you are on the list.
Who else sees it
A small number of service providers process data on my behalf, only for the job they do:
- The web host that serves these pages.
- The store and payment platform that takes the order.
- The email service that sends receipts, download links and newsletters.
- The analytics and advertising platforms described above.
Beyond that, I disclose information only where the law requires it. Some of these providers operate servers outside your country, so your data may be processed abroad under standard contractual protections.
How long it is kept
Order records are kept as long as tax law requires, then deleted. Mailing list entries are kept until you unsubscribe. Support emails are kept while the conversation is open and cleared periodically after that. Analytics data is retained in aggregate.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me to do any of the following, and I will do it within thirty days:
- Tell you what information I hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your record, except where I must keep an order for tax purposes.
- Send you a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Stop marketing to you, immediately and permanently.
Readers in the EEA and UK have these rights under GDPR; readers in California have comparable rights under the CCPA, including the right not to be discriminated against for using them. Since I do not sell personal information, there is nothing to opt out of on that front.
Age of readers
These books are written for adults and contain explicit content. This site is not intended for anyone under eighteen, and I do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information here, email me and I will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will also be announced to the mailing list. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
